The Secret to Health: Wudang Tai Chi's "Sweat Retention" Method

It's common to break a sweat during your summer Tai Chi practice, but the amount and location of that sweat can vary based on your method, skill level, and foundation. Whether the sweat is on your head, your back, or around the Tanzhong acupoint, there’s one rule you should always follow for your health: the Sweat Retention Method.

This principle is simple: after you sweat, you must "retain" the sweat and let it dry naturally before wiping your body with a hot towel. It’s crucial that you never remove your clothes to cool down, take a cold shower, or stand in a cold breeze. Doing so goes against the very purpose of practicing Tai Chi for health and can be damaging.

The feeling of sweating during Tai Chi is completely different from sweating during other sports. Tai Chi sweat doesn't leave you feeling parched or dizzy. Instead, once the sweat dries naturally, you'll feel incredibly cool and refreshed.

By combining the principles of practice with the wisdom of self-care, you can truly achieve the goal of a long and healthy life. This is a practice we share with all fellow practitioners, wishing you an "everlasting spring" of health and vitality.
